Yscariot (pronounced [ENG] is-carry-ut, ([JPN] イスカリオット (isukariotto), [KOR] 이스카리옷) is the title character in the story. His character model and demeanor is based on the author, Marcus Medina during his teenage years. He was originally created as a Japanese-born child known as Hayato who was adopted by an indigenous Mexican tribe in 1998. The concept of the story was that the child carried a dormant power hidden in a broken piece of a “Ball of Knowledge” and discovered his power when confronted by an intergalactic enemy known as “Liquis”. In 2012, the story’s name was changed from Project Hayato to Nazareth to The Gospel of Yscariot (now Yscariot) and the character ultimately inherited the name Yscariot. The name came from the author’s idea of a new Xbox Gamertag when trying to rename himself to a name like Jesus “because Jesus Christ is the best biblical name”, but failed as it was already popular. When selecting Judas Iscariot as the next pick, he changed the name to “make it a little more original” as many other biblical names were already taken. The attempt to use “Yscariot” was to bring light into a name that has been deemed as evil for over centuries. Yscariot and the biblical Judas Iscariot actually have nothing in common, but when asked about a parallel, Medina stated, “Quite possibly. Just wait and see…”
Yscariot was born on SPS-20-GA19 in Beslehem, Urdea as an only child to his mother Maryam, an Eygean of Faroanian descent. He is of mixed race and lives in the slums of Nazares, Urdea. Nothing is revealed about a father or father figure in his life or story. Yscariot is introduced in Verse 2: Awakening in Yscariot: Neo Alpha (the preview to Book I) as a 16-year old high school student who suffers from Leprosy and deals with bullying on an everyday basis. As a leper, he has very little aspiration to achieve anything in life as his heart is directly infected with the disease. Before the events of Verse 2, he spent a lot of time accompanying other teens who were constantly getting into trouble, either stealing or joining gangs to fight over territory, although he did not join himself. Yscariot later spent more time with his younger cousins and disbanded from his original group due to playing an excessive amount of video games. This also resulted in being targeted by the rivals of his old friends and some anxiety of being alone around town. Living below the social ladder, he was fortunate to be given the offer to travel to Yamato, one of the major countries of The Federation of Shenguo (a continental nation for which he expressed high interest), on a school trip meant for the higher-class students of Nazares.
Rise to Power
After a losing effort against a gang of Yamato street thugs, Yscariot bumped into a sorcerer and his daughter for a second time. He inherited the almighty Sphere of Light and gained an impressive amount of knowledge from it. His power alone was enough to eradicate the Leprosy from his body and his hair and eye color changed to silver. Because of his status as a school student and his promise to his mother, Yscariot had no choice but the break the power into fragments in order to eliminate the permanent transformation. It is currently unclear of how strong he will be at full power, but he is currently the second “strongest human on Earth” for the time being.
